I'm in 8th grade... This man is a basketball player who eats, sleeps and breathes the game. This basketball player is a Los Angeles Laker and devoted athlete who goes by the name of Kobe Bean Bryant. Kobe Bryant was born on August 23, 1978 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. His parents Joe and Pam named him after the famous beef, in Kobe, Japan; the idea popped into their head after looking at a restaurant menu. His father, Joe, was a professional basketball player. His career took him to different countries all around the amazing world (answers.com/topic/kobe-bryant). Kobe pretty much grew up in Italy where his father played basketball. You can imagine where he got his inspiration and great interest for basketball from considering his old man wore a jersey. By the time Kobe was three, he was already telling people he was going to participate in the NBA. His favorite player was Magic Johnson, a point guard, in a power forwards body (Basketball: A History of Hoops). Bryant admired his flashy ways and skills. He right then and there in Houston decided that the Lakers were his new favorite professional team. This is why he rightfully refused to join any team besides the Los Angeles Lakers. Kobe Bryant became really engaged in his father’s basketball career. He rarely, if ever, missed a game. Entertaing fans by shooting some hoops at his father’s games was something this boy loved to do. During the games, he would carefully observe his dad’s moves and then after words, try to mimic them (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kobe_Bryant ). Maybe this is how he learned his wicked awesome moves. Traveling to different places, like Europe, Italy, and various locations in the United States of America, had its ups and downs. He practically knew basketball like the back of his hand from experiencing soo many games. Kobe also could speak different languages pretty well. After living a few months in Italy, he was fluent in speaking the language. On the flipside, even though he was an A and B student, Kobe struggled to relate to other classmates. As, a result of being in a different country, Bryant didn’t know much of the slang the scholars used. He would just nod and walk away instead of communicating (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kobe_Bryant). This young star’s success quickly progressed. As a junior, he averaged 31 points, 10 rebounds, and 5 assists. That year he was honored with the Pennsylvania Player of the Year title. In the four years he attended high school he scored 2,883 points! Academics were not about to stall Kobe, after all he did receive outstanding scores on his SAT. An All Star was something Bryant strongly dreamt of becoming (sports.yahoo.com/nba/players/3118). After his outstanding year, major colleges from all over were definitely considering him. As shocking as it is, Kobe just decided to go straight into the NBA without college. Kobe was traded with player, Vlade Divac, and then he began to play for the Lakers instead of the Charlotte Hornets (kobebryantlive.com). He was ecstatic, not only was he playing for his favorite team, but he was also excited that there was a handful of talent on the team besides him. The Los Angeles Lakers were convinced that Kobe would help them to success. They figured if Bryant was the son of a previous basketball player he would most likely leave the other rookies in his dust, and the crowds in awe. Kobe had been around basketball his whole life ever since he was a little munchkin. Surely having him on the team could and would only lead to success. There were many highlights in Kobe Bryant’s first season. He was the NBA’s youngest starter in history. He was eighteen years, five months, and five days old. He also set a record of thirty-one points in a rookie game and Kobe won the Nestle Crunch Slam Dunk Contest. He impressed the judges with passing the ball between his legs and throwing down a ferocious, rim-shaking windmill jam, which scored a nearly perfect 49 points. No other Laker had achieved this type of challenge (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kobe_Bryant). Kobe’s fist signature shoe line came out this year as well. KB8 is what it became known as. Bryant’s career consists of many other outstanding accomplishments. Like for instance, being a NBA Champion. This was exactly the case from 2000-03. He was rewarded with the NBA’s MVP award this year (2008), as well as two other years in the past. Kobe was an all time scoring champ in the years of 2006-07. This awesomely amazing athlete has been an All Star 10 times! WHOO! He has also been plainly a regular season leader throughout these longgggg years of his career. For 10 consecutive years he has raised the bar for points scored in a season records or amount of points scored in a game. Fantastic is what this youthful dreaming boy has become over the years. Kobe is almost thirty now and still living his dreams. He completed his education; there aren’t any major weaknesses in his basketball skills. He can basically do whatever
